PICC Line

A PICC line is a fine plastic tubing that is inserted into a blood vessel in the arm, it then threads into a larger blood vessel in the chest. It is inserted in the oncology or x-ray department as a day case and is used to administer chemotherapy, other intravenous drugs, blood products and also to take blood samples from. It can be left in for several months.

PICC lines can have a single, double or triple lumen. With double and triple lumen PICC lines different but compatible intravenous products can be administered at the same time.
